Academic Skills as Part of Our Curriculum

At Cambridge Pre-school, academic skills are developed through meaningful learning experiences that are carefully woven into our curriculum.

We go beyond teaching children what to know. We focus on helping them understand, apply and enjoy learning. Through a balanced blend of language, numeracy and technology-supported learning, children build strong academic foundations while developing confidence and curiosity.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is thoughtfully integrated into our curriculum to personalise learning, support different learning paces and enhance engagement. Used purposefully and age-appropriately, AI allows teachers to better understand each child’s progress and tailor their learning experiences to their needs.

English Language and Literacy

Our English Language and Literacy curriculum supports children in becoming confident readers, writers and communicators.

In addition to our structured Phonics and Reading programme, children are immersed in rich languages experiences through our Literature Alive programme.

They are introduced to stories, poems and literary works that spark imagination, build vocabulary and encourage expression.

Children engage in reading, storytelling, discussions, and creative writing. They learn to articulate ideas clearly, listen to others and express thoughts with confidence.

Age-appropriate generative AI tools are also introduced to support collaborative storytelling and creative literary projects, allowing children to explore ideas together and strengthen communication skills.

Chinese Language and Literacy*

A strong foundation in Chinese language supports bilingual development and cultural appreciation.

Our Chinese Language and Literacy curriculum develops listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through a structured and systematic approach.

Children engage in a Chinese Reading Programme designed to build reading confidence and fluency, while gradually expanding vocabulary and comprehension.

Cultural appreciation is woven into learning through stories, songs, traditions, and activities that connect language to real-life experiences. Older children are introduced to Hanyu Pinyin to support a smooth transition to primary school.

AI-enabled tools are used to assess learning needs, personalise practice and track progress. This helps ensure each child remains engaged, motivated and supported throughout their learning journey.
*Japanese is also available at Cambridge @ River Valley.

Mathematics and Numeracy

Our Mathematics curriculum focuses on building understanding, reasoning and a positive attitude towards learning Mathematics.

Children are introduced to mathematical concepts such as counting, measuring, comparing, pattern recognition, money, and time through hands-on experiences.

They explore mathematics using concrete materials, games and real-life problem-solving situations.

Children manipulate objects, test ideas and make connections between numbers and their everyday experiences.

Our AI-supported Maths applications reinforce key concepts through interactive activities, allowing children to revisit learning in enjoyable and personalised ways.

How Academic Skills Support Lifelong Learning

When academic skills are developed through understanding and application, children become more confident learners.

They learn to think critically, ask questions and approach challenges with curiosity rather than fear.

These academic foundations prepare children not only for primary school but also for independent learning throughout life.
