Future Skills as Part of Our Curriculum

At Cambridge Pre-school, future skills are developed through everyday learning experiences that encourage children to think, explore and create.

While the world continues to change rapidly, we know that certain abilities will always matter. These include curiosity, problem-solving, creativity, adaptability, and critical thinking. Our curriculum is designed to nurture these skills from an early age.

Through our award-winning iSTEAM approach, children are exposed to Innovation, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics in ways that are engaging, meaningful and age-appropriate. Learning is hands-on and exploratory, allowing children to build understanding through experience rather than memorisation.

Learning Through Thinking and Doing

Children learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process.

Our curriculum embraces the philosophy of “thinking with hands”. Children explore ideas by building, testing, observing, and reflecting. Through open-ended activities and guided inquiry, they learn how to ask questions, make predictions, and learn from outcomes.

These experiences help children develop confidence in their thinking and a natural love for learning.

How Our iSTEAM Curriculum Supports Future Skills

Through iSTEAM learning, children develop skills that support success in school and beyond, including:

  • Problem-solving and logical thinking
  • Creativity and innovation
  • Adaptability and perseverance
  • Collaboration and communication
  • Confidence in exploring new ideas

These skills are embedded across learning areas and revisited through progressively deeper experiences as children grow.

Age-Appropriate iSTEAM Learning Pathways

Our iSTEAM curriculum evolves as children develop, ensuring learning is always relevant and developmentally appropriate.

For Infants

iSTEAM Exploratory Experiences

Infants are introduced to the basic concepts of science through sensory exploration and observation. Activities focus on simple concepts such as cause and effect, movement, sounds, textures, and interactions with the natural environment.

These experiences support cognitive and neurological development while nurturing curiosity about the world around them.

For Toddlers and Nursery 1

iSTEAM Discover Experiences

As children grow, learning becomes more exploratory and interactive. Through hands-on activities and social engagement, children develop foundational skills such as spatial awareness, logical reasoning, and early sequencing.

Children explore topics such as light and sound, living things, simple structures, and early coding concepts. These experiences help build neural connections that support learning and problem-solving.

For Nursery 2 and Kindergarten 1 & 2

iSTEAM Inquiry Learning

Older children engage in deeper inquiry-based learning that connects multiple disciplines. Through investigation and experimentation, children develop a broader understanding of how different ideas and systems work together.

Children explore topics such as simple and compound machines, coding and animation, sustainability, weather, and basic scientific investigations. These experiences encourage critical thinking, collaboration and creativity.

Why Future Skills Matter in Early Childhood

When children are given opportunities to explore, experiment and create, they develop confidence in their ability to think and learn independently.

These early experiences lay the foundation for:

  • School readiness and academic confidence
  • Resilience in facing challenges
  • Adaptability in new situations
  • Lifelong curiosity and motivation to learn

Future skills developed in the early years support children not just in school but throughout life.

Recognised for Excellence in iSTEAM Learning

Cambridge Pre-school has been recognised by Parents World as Best in STEAM Curriculum since 2020.

Our learning environment includes purpose-designed spaces and open-ended materials to support hands-on exploration and imaginative play. These experiences allow children to learn through play while developing higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.

“Walking the talk on the iSTEAM philosophy of “thinking with hands”, Cambridge Pre-school has an iSTEAM playground equipped with structured and non-structured materials to deliver hands-on experiential learning. Here children feed their imagination and learn as they play. The school believes that these open-ended exploratory experiences are necessary for building high order thinking and problem-solving skills in growing children.

For the younger kids from playgroup to nursery, iSTEAM is integrated seamlessly into their everyday experiences so they can whet their sense of curiosity and inquiry. This sets the foundation for more concrete iSTEAM learning and innovations at Kindergarten where children learn how to extract DNA, create chemical reactions, and build circuits, code and much more.”
